Moon Over Manifest by first time author Clare Vanderpool
has won the 2011 Newbery Award. Set in fictional Manifest,
Kansas, twelve year old Abilene Tucker sets out to discover
clues to her father's past. Through flashbacks,
newspaper articles and visits to a diviner, Abilene and her friemds
conduct a real spy hunt and learn about the history of the town and
Abilene's father.

If you like historical fiction, "Moon Over Manifest" is for you. Abilene Tucker, Pastor Shady Howard, Miss Sadie are characters not to be missed. Events of both 1917 and 1936, along with a mystery of who is "The Rattler" are entertwined to create a captivating story. I really enjoyed it. If you liked "The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate" you'll like this!
